HAPPY THANKSGIVING…

 November 24, 2011

By  Blaine Millet

It’s Thanksgiving morning and the house is perfectly quiet, other than the dogs wandering around in anticipation of all the food falling on the floor during the day.  My den is my quiet place, my place to think and create.  And today, it is my place of reflection…reflection on just how blessed I am with an unbelievably awesome family, great in-laws, friends, my advocates, my health (just had a physical) and the opportunities all around us.  It’s overwhelming…and I am so very thankful and so very blessed.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful day around the Millet house.  It is a day where all our family gathers and enjoys everyone’s company, their laughter, and their stories.  It is also a day of sharing.  Sharing what we are so blessed with and what we are thankful for in our lives.  We have a lot to be thankful for and it is one of those days of the year where we can reflect on all these blessings.

Besides the feasting that goes on from breakfast well into the evening, it is a time for stories, sharing, and remembering.  I get to live in this world every day with clients when I help them use social media to tell their stories to others.  This is a great privilege and always exciting to hear what people are passionate about and helping them bring their stories to life using the new media.

Today, I would encourage all of us to reflect on our own stories – as far back as you choose to go.  This is who you are and what you are about and most likely, what you are passionate about and thankful for today.  Take the time, put the turkey in the oven, grab whoever is around the house, and tell each other your stories.  Somehow the parades, football games, movies, and other distractions won’t seem as important, because they can’t hold a candle to the excitement and captivation of someone’s story.

Enjoy the day, enjoy your family and enjoy your friends.  And while you are giving thanks and reflecting on your blessings, share some stories you might not have shared in the past (parents and grandparents are a gold mine for these).  Everyone will be richer for the experience, including you, and these will be remembered well into the future and told over and over and over again…HAPPY THANKSGIVING
